  • Addicted to drama?

I'm sure some people go out of their way to create situations where they're the centre of attention.....

I thought all of this ended when I finished Secondary school and went off to Sixth Form, where people were meant to be more 'mature'. Nope, you still had the pathetic people, usually girls in my case, who had to make drama.

Now that its come to University and the work place, things seem even worse. Working in a pub means I get to hear all the gossip and things that go on between groups of friends and it really does make me wonder if some people are addicted to drama?

Take for example last night. Me and my mates decided to go out for the night seeing as everyone is heading back to Uni soon. We ended up in our favourite club where we can usually have a good night out. Next thing I know is my boyfriend is being shouted at by some girls. Now we're not ones to start trouble, we keep ourselves to ourselves, but this one girl was wanting us involved for some reason.

Obviously not rising to the bait we tried to figure out what had just happened and in the end up just left, leaving our night ruined.

It turns out she was on the microphone at the DJ booth and we weren't listening to her....

    *sigh*

  • Staying at Home for Uni/College

I've always wondered if i've missed out on experiences having lived at home for the past two years on my University course. I've had a mixed response from both sides of the argument but what are the pros and cons of living at home?

I've found i've been able to have much more free time because i've been able to get the time to do my work and not get distracted. On the other hand it costs me so much in taxi fares to get home from a night out.

Anyone else in this situation, what have you found the positives and negatives of the way you live compared to those who stay at the University/college? Or if you have a friend whos in this situation, do you notice the differences?

  • The NME Big Gig @ O2 Arena

With only a 90 minute slot at the NME Big Gig I wondered how The Cure were ever going to live up to their usual 3 hour performances they’re so well known for. After being given the ‘Godlike Genius’’ award the previous night NME had roped them in for a headline slot at the 02 in London. Supported by White Lies, Crystal Castles and Franz Ferdinand, the bill was complete.

    White Lies

I arrived just in time to catch White Lies open. Lead singer Harry McVeigh’s voice echoed through the half empty arena to the audience who had bothered to turn up on time. They raced through a seven song set including their current single Farewell to the Fairground. Despite not having the audience or  place on the bill they deserved the band managed to perform much better than following band Crystal Castles who’s performance was almost indescribable.

    Crystal Castles

Currently NME’s coolest person ever, Crystal Castles front woman Alice Glass seemed to be having a nap on the stage half of the time while she tried to scream into the microphone that was playing up. Maybe if it had worked their performance might have been more enjoyable but most of the audience were confused. Many people left their seats to get drinks or escape the sound. Only a select few fans, which included a group of girls behind me jumped around in time to the music with a bit more enthusiasm than the band themselves.

    Franz Ferdinand

Franz Ferdinand came to the rescue, to the relief of the audience who, like me, were probably wondering who had booked the previous band. Not only sticking to their new stuff, old favourites like Take Me Out and Do You Want To spurred on a sing along from the audience, always the sign of a great performance. Only recently back in the world of music after writing their new album its evident that Franz haven’t lost their touch and were a great introduction for The Cure.

    The Cure

As the four shadowed figures strolled onto the stage the 18,000 strong crowd erupted. Having only played once in the UK in last two years it was obvious people were pleased to see them.

They went on to play a set which many would say was for hardcore Cure fans but nobody would have went home disappointed. Guitarist Porl Thompson livened up the stage with heels that most girls wouldn’t be able to walk in and Robert Smiths trademark backcombed black hair and red lips lit up the screens.

The band played songs from each of their thirteen albums which kept everyone pleased, although the set did seem very dreary and sad. However after a 90 minute set they came back for an encore, playing some of their more upbeat and well known tracks including  Boys Don’t Cry and 10:15 Saturday Night.

After a mixed start I was worried about how my night was going to end but Franz Ferdinand and The Cure didn’t disappoint and most people left with a smile on their face. With a career spanning over 30 years I was amazed at The Cures performance and their quality after all these decades

Looks like NME’s Godlike Genius’ award is in good hands this year.

  • Do exercise videos work?

Having no luck with just eating properly and moving about a bit i decided to buy a random exercise DVD to see how I got on. I bought this one here..

Now I know I'm never going to end up with a body like them but the tag line 'Dance yourself fit!' dragged me into the purchase. It comes with a warm up, three different dances and a cool down. I went the whole way through...admittedly I stopped twice when I felt like I was going to collapse but it was really enjoyable.

I'm going to try and keep it up doing at least one of the workout sections every day just to see if something like this can replace going to the gym and running on treadmills ect.

Has anyone had success with a workout DVD?

    Revlon Skin Matching

Ok, so I bought this the other day believing the claims that it matches exactly to your skin colour. After spending £8.99, which for me is quite a lot on make-up, I was excited to see the results.

Did it live up to my expectations?
Yes...if my natural face colour was slightly orange. (It isn't by the way)
It does the job suppose but I really did believe that I might have found my perfect foundation. I wonder if its just me that's had this problem or if its just a novelty that a lot of women have fell for.

On the other hand their under eye concealer its actually quite good. =]
